I just wanted to post up where the project stands today.

Purchased-
-1986 Corolla SR5 hatch
super clean shell otherwise i wouldve started out witha GTS
-OEM style Carbon Fiber hood
I got this half price from a local shop that went out of business. I plan on painting it with the car for a clean look
-Corolla GTS LSD rear end with all the parts to convert my car to 4 wheel disc brakes
this was a tough find. one of the most sought after parts for these cars as alot of GTS came with no LSD, and SR5s such as mine have no LSD or disc brakes in the rear.
-4AGE engine
-balanced and blueprinted block
-TRD valve springs
-Mikuni/Solex dual sidedraft carburators
-it came with a fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator

-MSD 6AL ignition
-MSD Blaster 2 coil
-OBX header

I plan on having a custom highrise header built, this was cheap to use until i get one
-Front coilover suspension
Paradise Racing 8k spring rate

I'm ready at this point to swap the new engine in. hopefully if the weather cooperates I will pull the old engine out this sunday. since I'm doing this build in my driveway (garage is too small) I'm at the mercy of the elements. After the engine swap the next upgrade will be the suspension and rear end. I still need to buy the rear springs, and some other components (lateral bar, NCRCAs, shocks)

I plan on getting all the mechanical upgrades installed on the car this summer to get all the bugs worked out by driving it in the fall and then a full disassembly to send the shell to the body shop for paint over the winter. If everything works out, I'll have it fairly complete and on the road for spring 2007.

This "blog" will follow the buildup of my AE86 Corolla. I've been into Toyotas for some time now, Ive owned an 89 Corolla sedan, an 86 Corolla SR5 coupe, My daily driver is a modded 03 Matrix XRS, and the current project I aquired in Feb. 2006 is an 86 Corolla SR5 hatch. I've always wanted to build up an AE86 as it is a "cult" classic car as far as Toyota enthusiests go.
Plans for the AE86 include
-engine swap
-full paint
-OEM JDM style body kit
-Corolla GTS LSD rearend
-full suspension upgrades
-minor interior upgrades (seats, steering wheel)
-wheels

I'll try to update this Blog whenever progress is made on the build.
